Stress Management Series: Why Women Get Stressed

Debbie Mandel, a stress management expert, details the reasons why women get stressed. Why do women get caught in a "worry-loop," as she calls it? Why is it necessary for women to constantly become so wrapped up in the lives of others that they are concerned for the well-being of those around them above their own? It's important to remember to always put yourself first, only then comes true empowerment.

Stress Management Series: Why Women Get Stressed Transcript

"Why Women Get Stressed" Debbie: Men and women really differ in their stress response; from all the women that I have personally interviewed, women tend to feel it more intensely, they have a deeper limbic system. They get into a worry-loop; women tend and befriend, they connect with so many people. We are so enmeshed in other people's lives that we feel responsible for their happiness, and we forget about our own happiness; I'm speaking as a woman. Another buzz word that I hear is, "oh we're crazy busy," and women keep doing more and more to prove themselves, to validate themselves, and to find that external empowerment, so they get upset more. It's harder for them to get out of that worry-loop.
