Dr. Vaughan of New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center dispels the common assumption that urology is a medical field dedicated to men. Dr. Vaughan also reviews several urologic conditions that commonly afflict women.

Bladder cancer is related to smoking, however, who's smoking more in 2006 than two or three decades ago? Prostate cancer dominates the field, and certainly is common however, if we look at the most common problem that urologists take care, it's urinary tract infections. Guess who has those, women, not men, and generally younger women. Our team, working in female urology, leakage, incontinence, in the older population is the most common cause women are in nursing homes. Stone disease, kidney stone disease, incredibly common across the world, a little more common in men than women, but still very common in women. So we are looked upon as a so called %u201Cmen's specialty%u201D but it's really not true.
