While in class, Erik experiences extreme dizziness that forces him to see a Cardiologist. Shortly after it is determined that he has a condition known as Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia (PSVT).
I went through a week of - of, you know, almost blacking out every single time I had an episode. I had four to five episodes a day.
My name's Erik. I'm from Brooklyn, and I have suffered from supraventricular tachycardia.
It went on for about a week before I actually did something about it, but in class one day I kind of just got dizzy, so I went to a cardiologist that was nearby. I happened to have an episode of the SVT there, and from there it just continued. Months of several cardiologists' visits, heart monitors constantly, changes in medications; it restricted me from doing any school sports. I had to completely kind of change what I was eating; everything I was doing because like little things could affect it in terms of anything that kind of messes with blood pressure plays with the speed of your heart; anything like that.
It was really before a lot of adjustments and visits, you know, and heart monitors, that they actually found like the right and exact dosage to - to stop me from having the episodes like on a daily basis.
Fortunately though, it was recently the end of this past summer, so about three years later - I'm a senior now -that my condition actually faded away on its own.
As soon as you notice anything going on with your heart, to get it taken care of right away because, you know, it's something that is not worth waiting around with to - to diagnose if you have a problem.
