Overactive Bladder: Justine's Story - Episode 2 Transcript

I spoke to a few of my friends and I did my own research about it, I found out my mom actually suffers from overactive bladder, so I took some tips from my friends, from my mom and I kind of started - in the research I noticed that pretty much every single article that I've read has mentioned Kegel exercises which basically you can do before going to bed. You can also do it if you - at work if you're sitting in a chair. You can even do it while you're working and it strengthens the muscles and it really - it's supposed to help. It's a gradual thing. It's not going to help you right away. I've been doing it for about three months now, basically before I go to bed and I feel that it has helped. Also, on top of that I've also been taking cranberry supplements and I've been drinking a lot of cranberry juice, which also I feel has helped. So the combination of the Kegel exercises, the cranberry juice, it's more of natural way to help that. I have noticed also that if I put myself on a regime, like if I tell myself that at 2:00 every day I'm going to go to the bathroom and then at 4:00 and then at 6:00, that I don't maybe feel it as often that I have to go, maybe because I know that I've put myself on like a strict regime and I know that it's not a cure for myself as well because I do struggle with the overactive bladder every single day, but I do have to say that it has helped me a lot. So I am so happy that I found the Kegel exercises and that I'm following a regime and the cranberry juice because I'm really happy now. I was so frustrated when I first got diagnosed with it, but now I just feel like it's not taking control of my body, that I have control over it.
