Stress Management Series: How Men Handle Stress
Debbie Mandel, a stress management expert, breaks down the main difference with how males handle stress. She urges that before attacking the male species as a whole, that we need to realize first how and why men suppress much of their feelings. Only then can we truly understand one another.
"How Men Handle Stress"
Men are able to compartmentalize better, but they do have a hard time, and before we attack the male species we should realize that they suppress a lot. They don't have the outlet of women, who tend and befriend with their girlfriends; women get it out. Men say, "I'm not a man, and I am not gonna show it." Suppression comes at a cost, and men turn to substance abuse and alcohol more than women, so both sides are stressed. It's just in our expression, and then we get conflict so that becomes a problem. We need to understand our different responses.
