Food Allergies - Jacquie's Story

Food Allergies - Jacquie's Story Transcript

Hi. My name is Jacquie. I'm from New Jersey and I suffer from a highly allergic reaction to flaxseed oil and sesame seeds. I was starving, and I took this multigrain cracker, and I ate it, and I immediately got sick. I called me allergist immediately, who was just right down the street, and he said, well, how far are you; I'm very close; he said come over right away. I got there and I went into anaphylactic shock is what happened. I got hives all over and my doctor took one of these, this is a called and Epinephrine pen, and he put it right in my leg. Immediately I started to feel better. I stopped sweating, stopped heaving, my hives went away. And he took a blood test, and it turned out I had a highly allergic reaction to flaxseed, sesame seeds. So I had to get these EpiPens that I need to have on my person all the time because you never know. I always ask at the restaurant, what's in stuff, make sure it's nothing funky, and so far so good. I have never had to use them yet.
