Life Therapy Series: Curing Negative Body Image Transcript

"Curing Negative Body Image" Jasmin: "Body image is huge, it definitely affects the way we feel about ourselves. Particularly for women, the amount of time and energy that is spent is ridiculous. For example, if you have a woman that wants to lose 5 pounds, the voice in her head says, "You need to lose 5 pounds, you need to lose 5 pounds." I think a really important factor is that once she loses the 5 pounds, there's a very good chance that the voice will continue. It has nothing to do with the 5 pounds, it has to do with the fact that we have this programming voice in our head that says, "You're not good enough," and it has so much to do with how we actually feel than what we are actually saying to ourselves. And a really important way to get over that is to start focusing on nice things. There are so many amazing things about you that you're just simply not paying attention to you. And people that are prone to depression overgeneralize, and focus only on those negative things, and they see it as the whole reality they don't actually see the bigger picture."
