Clinical Depression - Megan's Story

Clinical Depression - Megan's Story Transcript

Starting like when I was little I wasn't really social, it took a really long time for me to kind of make friends. My name is Megan and I'm from Hillsboro, New Jersey and I suffer from clinical depression. Once I hit college it was like really hard to be so far away from home. I just really felt like I wasn't part of my family any more. I didn't really have any friends, I had a really bad experience with my roommate. I ended up trying to overdose on Tylenol in February of last year. I ended up going to the counseling center at school and I was like, look like I have a problem, I need help. Like I can't do this by myself. My family was devastated. There was a lot of crying and a lot of tears and a lot of why did this happen, how did this happen? I don't understand because I hadn't said anything. You know I acted like everything was fine. I was in therapy once a week since the week I got out of the hospital and I'm on 20 milligrams of Prozac a day. That was a year ago and I'm actually going tomorrow to talk to my doctor about weaning myself off of the medication. I'm doing a lot better. I actually just made my first real life set of friends all by myself like last weekend so that was really great. I definitely see myself you know putting this behind me and just you know making me stronger from this.
