Choosing a Natural Pregnancy, With the Aid of A Midwife - Anna's Story Transcript

My name is Anna. I'm 23 and basically from the start of my pregnancy, after meeting my first gynecologist, I knew that I didn't want to go the standard route. I wasn't feeling, you know, all the pressure that was being put on something that was as natural as a pregnancy and childbirth. So I went through my pregnancy with a midwife who put me a whole lot more at ease with the situation. They let your body do what it needs to do naturally unless there is some kind of complication. If you live in a society where you take Ibuprofen for every headache and you know, your body becomes dependent on these things and doesn't know how to work with itself naturally, so you know, it's - my pregnancy basically changed my entire outlook on what our bodies actually need and what our bodies are capable of doing on their own and that's the way that I'm choosing to raise my son. And compared to other children his age, I see a perfectly healthy-happy child. I definitely recommend having a midwife or you know, someone outside of the medical profession who knows about pregnancy to come in and really make you more at ease about the situation. And now that I have a son who has been raised, you know, all naturally, without the intervention of all these Western medical ideas, I definitely feel more strongly about it than I ever knew that I could.
