Raynaud's Phenomenon - Yanine's Story

It was pretty abrupt actually. I noticed that my hands were turning white all the time and then suddenly it then turned really, really dark blue. And I thought it would go away because I had told several people, you know, my hands look really blue, and they were like, oh, that happens to me sometimes. But the condition would like not go away, even in warm weather.

I did a little snooping on the internet when I first noticed my hands were turning blue and it turned out that blue hands is associated with lupus, so immediately I went to the doctor to get a blood test. It turned out I didn't have lupus, I had Raynaud's Phenomenon.

I cannot work in the office building anymore. Like, I need to find alternative work because most offices are air conditioned for men and you -I cannot, I mean, I can't even dial a phone. My hands becomes so blue that it's really debilitating. I need to work in a warm place. I notice my Raynaud's even now, like my hands are freezing and it's not that cold outside right now, but I just cannot get them to be warm. There really is no cure and truly, there are no treatments. My doctor just said to me, wear heated gloves constantly. Always try to keep yourself warm. If they have Raynaud's, don't worry. We've discovered that it's fairly common and you know, you just have to take care of yourself, and a truly responsible person would probably be able to, you know, continue your normal life.
