Kevin reveals a common misconception associated with motion sickness. He explains what really goes on when becoming ill during a simple drive and what his methods are for coping with it.
To take a 10-15 minute drive and have to stop four or five times, it sucks. You know what I mean? So you're taking a 20-minute drive and it turns into a 45-minute drive. It's just, you know, it's horrible.
My name is Evan McLean from Plainfield, New Jersey. P-Funk.
You know, you're with friends who say, oh, I'm not going to ride with him today because, you know, we'll have to pull over 20 times, you know, on our commute. Or you get on the train, the first thing you look for is like where's the bathroom at. Or I'm getting on a commuter bus, but there's no bathrooms. So now I've got to have a cup, so just in case something happens, you know. That situation is embarrassing. It's not because the vehicle is swerving back and forth, you're thinking about what's going to go on when you get to your place, your destination, or man, I'm scared of getting in an accident. And I think that's a lot of confusion with that, you know, you just hear motion, you're like right away, oh, that means that vehicle is activating that way or I'm in a train, or a bus - no, it's anxiety.
I've been taking medications since I was ten years old and I quit taking it because it doesn't - or it makes you feel lethargic, you can't function, now you can't work. You need to learn good coping skills for everything and one of my main coping skills is I just hold my breath and I think of something very positive. I think of my children, I think of just a happy feeling. You know, me, I'm a big - I love to surf, I love the beach. I think of the beach. I think of my surfboard, you know what I mean. And it goes - and I'm good.
